Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2025

  1. Ouvai Foundation proudly contributed to the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2025, India’s largest citizen-led assessment of children’s learning outcomes. Widely regarded as a benchmark study in the education sector, ASER plays a crucial role in generating evidence on the status of foundational literacy and numeracy across the country and informing policy and practice at both state and national levels.
  2. The findings from ASER continue to underscore the pressing need for focused investments in foundational learning. In Tamil Nadu, the 2024 assessment revealed that only 35.6% of children in Grade 5 could read a Grade 2-level text, while only 27.7% of children in Grade 3 were able to perform basic subtraction. These findings highlight persistent learning gaps that require sustained and targeted interventions, particularly among children from underserved and marginalized communities.
  3. As part of the ASER initiative, Ouvai Foundation supported field-level assessment processes and contributed to the collection of reliable grassroots data on children’s learning outcomes. Participation in the study strengthened the Foundation’s understanding of the learning landscape and provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by children in acquiring foundational skills.
  4. The evidence generated through ASER has significantly influenced Ouvai Foundation’s programmatic approach. It reinforced the need for interventions such as Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL), community-based learning centres, reading promotion initiatives, and meaningful parent engagement. The findings also informed the design and implementation of the Learn Well Project, enabling the Foundation to align its strategies with identified learning needs and ensure that interventions are data-driven, targeted and impactful.
  5. By contributing to ASER, Ouvai Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to evidence-based action and its belief that sustainable educational transformation begins with understanding where children are in their learning journey and responding with solutions that help every child thrive.
